| Dear Friends, As we all know, education and health budgets continue to shrink throughout the country. This is a major issue everywhere, but has been felt greatly by the Greater Dallas area since our population includes many low-income families. The Concilio’s concern with this issue comes from understanding that low-income families need more, not less, educational and health support to overcome their obstacles. The Concilio works to empower parents to become active participants in their school and community while empowering their children to not only graduate high school but to continue on to higher education. Despite district budget cuts, The Concilio has extended our reach to Irving ISD and Mesquite ISD, and remains a strong presence in Dallas ISD and Plano ISD. Healthy families are also a part of The Concilio’s mission, and we accomplish this through offering free nutrition and wellness classes to fight obesity, diabetes, and heart disease; a diabetes management course; exercise programs; and healthcare resources for the uninsured. The Concilio is grateful that we have made it to being 30 years old, and it is through the generosity of friends and supporters like you who have made this possible. Sincerely, Florencia Velasco Fortner, President & CEO Para ver este contenido en español, haga clic aquí. |
