Dallas, Texas (January ) – The Concilio joins the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, National Alliance for Hispanic Health, NCLR (National Council of La Raza) and other community organizations in a campaign to reach eligible Latinos who have not yet signed up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA Latino Week of Action, January 11–15, represents a concentrated effort to encourage Latinos to call The Concilio for local assistance at 214-818-0481 before the January 31, 2016 application deadline.
The Latino Week of Action seeks to inform the Hispanic community about the benefits of the ACA and the enrollment resources available to the largest group of uninsured Americans. In Texas, the uninsured rate for non-elderly Latinos is 27 percent, compared to the overall uninsured rate of 19 percent.
This Open Enrollment period, which began on November 1, 2015 and ends on January 31, 2016, provides an opportunity to build on the gains that have been made and encourage those who remain uninsured to apply for coverage.
In conjunction with The Latino Week of Action, The Concilio assisters are available for free, inperson assistance to the uninsured to help them review their options, assess the financial help available to them and gain a better understanding of the enrollment process.
Around 2 million uninsured Latinos qualify for Marketplace coverage this year. Tax penalty will increase to $695 per adult or 2.5% of their 2016 overall income when they file their taxes in 2017.
Avoid the tax penalty for not having health insurance, call for local assistance at 214.818.0481.
